The magnificent lighthouse of Skopelos

Skopelos Lighthouse

While it may have gained international fame after the shooting of "Mamma Mia", Skopelos' beauty nevertheless did not wait for the Hollywood lights to shine.

The special island of Sporades, with its frenzied nature reaching the tide, is a favorite destination both for its beaches and settlements, with its hospitable people and beautiful corners.

At the northern end of Skopelos, 10 km away. From the Glossa area, on Cape Pigi on a green slope is the island's iconic lighthouse. It was built in 1889 by the Greek State and consists of a mausoleum and a 14 m high tower.

Leaving Glossa on its way to the port of Skopelos, the traveler has the opportunity to see the lighthouse at Cape Gourouni, which was built in the late 19th century and consists of a 14 m high house and tower.

During World War II, it was shut down. In the context of the reconstruction of the Lighthouse Network, it reopened oil in 1944 as a source of energy. In 1984 the lighthouse was powered and operated as a supervised electrician until 1989 where it was fully automated.

Those who visit it are impressed by the location and the view of the endless blue.

The lighthouse has been designated as a Historic Preserved Monument.
